Harold "Bill" Vanderkin
Harold "Bill" Vanderkin, 78, passed away on Friday evening, Dec. 1, after a courageous battle with leukemia.
He was born on Feb. 7, 1928 in Sheboygan, a son of the late Ben and Bertha (Moser) Van-derkin.
Bill worked at the Kohler Co. for many years. He also owned and operated Bil-Mar Bowl in Cascade from 1973-1990.
On Aug. 30, 1952 Bill married Marian Weinhold at St. Paulís Lutheran Church in Cascade where Bill had been a member all of his life.
Bill was very active in community affairs. He was a member of the Cascade Volunteer Fire Department for 60 years, having served as fire chief for 25 consecutive years.
He also was a very active member in the Cascade Lions Club, was a charter member and also served as president for two terms. He was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award (Lionsí highest award) and numerous other awards.
Bill was instrumental in obtaining the present Lions Hall from the American Legion and enjoyed all the Lions fundraisers, doing the lawn work there for many years, as well as always finding ideas for projects and usually finding enough help to get them done.
Bill always had a great knack for finding anything people were looking for.
He loved being busy, plowing snow, cutting grass, his once-a-week sheepshead club, driving cars, trips to Oneida and tours which he conducted to Las Vegas for many, many years.
He enjoyed going over to see Jenny whenever he got to Plymouth.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Marian of Cascade; two sons, Gary (Amy) of Plymouth and Rick (Shelley) of West Bend; four grandsons, Jason, Cory, Brad and Marc; a sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Jerry Block of Cascade; and a brother-in-law, Robert Weinhold of Sheboygan.
Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Model.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Paulís Lutheran Church in Cascade.
Rev. Richard Bidinger, pastor, will officiate.
It was Billís wishes to have cremation following the service, and inurnment will be at the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth on Monday from 3:30 - 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Billís name.
