James P. Ortman

James P. Ortman, age 60, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006 at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk, surrounded by his family.

Jim was born on July 29, 1946 in Milwaukee to the late Paul and Shirley Ortman (nee Aamon). He graduated form PiusXI High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee before being drafted into the U.S. Army.

He is a veteran of the Vietnam War and received the Army Commendation Medal. He taught high school religious education for many years at Holy Angels School. He was also a Cub Scout Den leader for several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially spending time with his family.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Catherine Ortman (nee Kojis); cherished children, Jason (Tonya) Ortman of Appleton, Amy Ortman of West Bend, Joshua (fiancˇe Rachel) Ortman of Milwaukee, and Luke (Cari) Ortman of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren, Jacob and Mikenna Ortman. He is further survived by his sisters, Cathleen (Richard) Muehlbauer of Oconomowoc and Cynthia ("Butch") Riggs of Columbus, Ohio; brothers, Kevin (Dorothy) Ortman and Timothy (Jennifer) Ortman, both of Columbus, Ohio; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. He is also survived by his four-legged companions, Maggie and Trapper.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Dec.26, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend. Cremation will take place at Paradise Cremation Services of West Bend. Visitation with family and friends will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., at the church only.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic who helped Jim survive three years with his battle against cancer and the staff at Kathy Hospice who assisted Jim in his final struggle and with compassion and care, made him comfortable and peaceful. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to either The Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic or Kathy Hospice.
