Sylvia E. Fechter

Sylvia E. Fechter, nee Dohr-wardt, 65, of West Bend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, Dec. 25, 2006 at Kathy Hospice, after a courageous two-year battle with brain cancer.

Sylvia was born on April 16, 1941 in the town of Trenton where she was raised, the daughter of Alfred and Veronica (nee Otto) Dohrwardt, and graduated from West Bend High School in 1958.

After high school, she worked for the West Bend Elevator.

On Oct. 27, 1962, she devoted her love to August Paul Fechter Jr. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg.

After marriage, the couple began a loving family of their own.

Sylvia stopped working at the West Bend Elevator so she could dedicate her time, love and energy to raising their family.

After her children became adults, she worked at "A Stitch In Time" in West Bend for her daughter, Brenda, and son, Dale.

She loved gardening, cooking, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Sylvia will be deeply missed and forever loved by her husband, August; her children, Dale Fechter and Sally (Kerry) Lewin, both of West Bend, Brenda (Kevin) Kempf of Adell and Kenneth Fechter of West Bend; her three cherished grandchildren, Jacob Lewin, Matthew Kempf and Jessica Lewin; her mother, Veronica Dohrwardt; two brothers, Frank (Barb) Dohr-wardt of Jackson, and Willard Dohrwardt of West Bend; her sisters-in-law, Clara Neu of West Bend, MaryJane Fechter of Random Lake, Irene Fechter of Newburg and Dorothy (Jim) Griesmer of Hartford; and her brothers-in-law, Ray (Arlene) Fechter of Florida, Richard (Martha) Fech-ter of West Bend and Ed (Joan) Hetebrueg of West Bend.

She will also be missed by two aunts, nieces, nephews, other special relatives and dear friends.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her father, Alfred; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, August Fechter Sr. and Helen Fechter; her sister, Elvira Hetebrueg; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Fechter and Martha Meyer; and four brothers-in-law, Leo and Ralph Fechter, LeRoy Neu and George Meyer.

A Mass of Christian Burial in honor of Sylvia will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 521 Congress St., Newburg, with Father Guy Gurath officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery.

Visitation with family and friends will be held at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend, on Thursday from 4 p.m. until the time of a prayer vigil at 7 p.m.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Malkin and Dr. Mueller at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, and the caring staff of nursing professionals at Kathy Hospice.
