Dorothy Augusta (Schumacher) Brophey
Dorothy Augusta (Schumacher) Brophey, age 96, of Winneconne, formerly of Hartford, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006 at the Omro Care Center.
She was born in Hammond, Ind. on Oct. 10, 1910 to the late Carl and Augusta (Brums) Schumacher. Dorothy lived in Florida and Oconomowoc and moved to Hartford after she married James Theodore Brophey on July 22, 1933.
Dorothy and James moved to Gary, Ind. in 1935.
They also lived in California a short time before returning to Hartford in 1951.
Dorothy worked at J C Penney Co., retiring in 1972. James preceded Dorothy in death on Nov. 6, 1990.
Dorothy lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Dick Esser, after the death of her husband until she entered the Omro Care Center in July 2001.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Winneconne.
Dorothy is survived by her son-in-law, Richard Esser, of Winneconne; two grandchildren, Jill Marie (David) Karn, of Winneconne and Jay Albert (Lisa) Esser of Rubicon; three great-grandchildren, Aaron James Karn, of Oshkosh, Sara Jo Esser and Stephanie Lauren Esser, both of Rubicon; two sisters-in-law, Emma Enderle, of Theresa and Olga Schumacher, of Stuart, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents and husband, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her daughter, Helen Esser; one great-grandson, Adam Matthew Karn; two sisters, Emma Hood and Louise Wells; four brothers, Carl, Harry, Ed and Grant Schumacher; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and other relatives.
A Funeral Mass will be Friday, Dec. 29, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Winneconne, with Rev. Leroy Smet officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Kilian Cemetery in Hartford. A visitation will be Friday at the church from 10 a.m. to the time of the Mass.
Mueller Funeral Home in Winneconne is assisting the family.
