Gary E. "Carp" Carpenter
Gary E. "Carp" Carpenter, 57, of Fairfield Bay, Ark., formerly of West Bend, passed away on Friday, Jan. 27, 2006.
Gary was born on Feb. 26, 1948 in Hartford.
He was the son of James and Aurla Carpenter. On April 26, 1969, he married his friend and high school sweetheart, GeorgiAnna Dobraff in Hartford.
Survivors include his wife, GeorgiAnna; a son, Tyler J. Carpenter (Carole) of Thomaston, Ga.; and a daughter, Monica L. Gorgas (Brian) of San Marcos, Calif.
He is further survived by a brother, Billie L. Carpenter of West Bend and other dear friends and relatives.
Gary was a Vietnam veteran who served as a hospital corpsman/second class in the U.S. Navy. He received the Bronze Star Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal for his services.
Gary was employed at the Washington County Sheriff’s Department in West Bend for 23 years. He loved his job and achieved the rank of detective before retiring in 1998. Subsequently, he joined American Family Insurance as a fire investigator. Gary enjoyed fishing, golfing, riding his Harley and was a member of the Woodcarvers of Fairfield Bay, Ark.
A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 from 1-3 p.m., with a Memorial Service to follow, in the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend.
