Gladys R. Steinbrecker
Gladys R. Steinbrecker, 91, of West Bend, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at SynergyHealth St. Joseph’s Hospital, West Bend.
A memorial service will be held at the Jens Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 1122 S. Eighth St., Manitowoc, on Sun-day, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m.
Rev. Richard Runge and Rev. Mary Davies will officiate, and burial of her cremated remains will take place in Evergreen Cemetery.
Gladys was born Feb. 14, 1914, in Kellnersville, the daughter of the late Vincent and Adelaide (nee Bonin) Cherney.
She was educated in Mani-towoc and graduated from Mani-towoc County Normal School and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
She taught primary grades in Newton, Manitowoc Rapids and McKinley School in Manitowoc until her retirement in 1951.
She married Fred Steinbrecker in 1952, and after their marriage the couple lived in Racine.
Fred preceded her in death in 1983.
In 1986, Gladys moved to the Cedar Ridge Retirement Center in West Bend.
Survivors include two brothers, Howard Cherney of Mani-towoc and Allan Cherney of Sun City West, Ariz.; nieces and nephews, Dale Cherney of Ho-wards Grove, Wayne Cherney of Manitowoc, Lee Cherney of Den-ver, Pamela Hansen of Denver and Nancy Wojciechowski of Green Bay; six grand-nieces; one grand-nephew; other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
