John L. Schlapman

A memorial Mass was held on Jan. 28 at St. Wencelís Catholic Church in Neva for John L. Schlapman of Summit Lake (formerly of Milwaukee and Green Bay), who passed away on Monday, Jan. 23, 2006 at the age of 76 at Langlade Memorial Hospital in Antigo. The Rev. Jerry Worman celebrated the Mass. Visitation was held at the church prior to the service. Strasser-Roller Funeral Home in Antigo assisted the family with arrangements.

John was born on July 28, 1929 in Milwaukee to Fred and Mary (nee Seny) Schlapman. He graduated from Custer High School in Milwaukee. John served in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean War as a submariner. He exchanged marriage vows with Arlene Weiler on Oct. 7, 1950 in Milwaukee. John was employed in the real estate business.

John belonged to St. Wencel Catholic Church in Neva and was a member of the Antigo Elks and Bass Lake Country Club.

John is survived by his wife Arlene (nee Weiler) Schlapman; daughters Barbara (Larry) DeJardin of Green Bay and Mary (Fernando) Gonzalez of Grafton; sons Rick (Patti) Schlapman of Mosinee and David (Barbara) Schlapman of Brookfield; grandchildren Michael (Paula) Anderson, Nicole, Kari Dee and Ryan Schlapman, Ashley DeJardin; and brother William (Eleanor) Schlapman of Winneconne.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Beatrice; and brother Fred.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Johnís name to the LeRoyer Hospice Program of Langlade Memorial Hospital in Antigo.
