Gus C. Boll

Gus C. Boll of Hartford passed away Monday, January 30, 2006 at Aurora Medical Center Hartford. He was 98 years old.

He was born April 3, 1907 in Platteville on a farm to August and Louise (nee Lorence) Boll. He married Thelma Libakken on June 9, 1932 in Rockford, Ill.

Gus graduated from University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1930 with degrees in science and administration. He was active in college athletics. He received his masters degree from the University of Iowa. He spent a total of 44 years in the public school education field, six years in the classroom and coaching and 38 years in administration. He was the administrator at Prairie Du Sac, Slinger, and then the Hartford School District. Gus retired at 62 years of age. He came out of retirement to help the Pewaukee school district for what turned out to be six years instead of the initial one-year commitment they asked of him.

Gus retired and joined the Hartford Senior Friends and was asked to join the board of directors. He was elected president, and was instrumental in organizing a building committee and a fund drive that was able to acquire sufficient pledges to start building the center. Gus stayed through the building process, but had to give up the presidency when his wife, Thelma, became ill. Gus served as vice-president of the Wisconsin Teachers Association and was a member of the Wisconsin Retired School Administrators Association. He was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Hartford, and the Tripol Temple Shriners of Milwaukee.

He is survived by his two children, Nancy (David) Cole of Prairie Du Sac and Robert (Sarah) Boll of Hartford; seven grandchildren, Barbara (John) Hernandez, Scott (Mary) Cole, Sue Cole, Joan Cole, Katherine (Andy) Dean, Margaret (Bryan) Canfield, and Christine (Dan) Dobner; and 15 great grandchildren. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma; his brothers and sisters; and a grandson, Steven Cole.

The memorial funeral service was Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 at Shimon Funeral Home in Hartford, with Rev. Robert Kirchman officiating. Family greeted relatives and friends Friday at the funeral home. Inurnment at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield.
