Jean E. Benka
Jean E. (nee Collins) Benka, of Hartford, surrounded by her loving family, was born to eternal life on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at the age of 68 years. She was born April 7, 1937 in Hartford, the daughter of Joseph and Lucille (nee Hauschel) Collins.
She attended St. Kilianís School and graduated from Hartford High School. Jean was employed at HUHS for 39 years as an executive secretary and accountant.
She was very active in St. Kilian Catholic Church, Hartford Lionesses, Hospital Auxiliary, Hospital Gift Shop, Hartford Foundation, her Bridge Club, Book Club, Woofers Ski Group and Bowling League, the Hartford Christmas Committee and other community organizations. She loved playing bridge and writing notes, "See me." Jean.
She is survived by her loving husband, Erwin "Erv" Benka; three daughters, Maureen (Bud) McCormick of Xenia, Ohio, Kathryn (Christian) Benedict of Springfield, Ohio, and Sue Golding of Shawano; eight grandchildren, Aiden (13), Evan and Aileen (11), Liam (5), Ian and Eoin (3) McCormick, and Bailey (6) and Delaney (4) Benedict; her brothers, Dr. Joseph (Kathy) Collins of Oconomowoc and Robert (Teresa) Collins of Fairfax, Va.; her sisters, Carole (LeRoy) Breuer of Hartford and Gail Aufdermauer of Delafield; and many special friends. She is also survived by other relatives and friends.
Jean is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Collins; her mother, Lucille Hauschel Collins; and her brother, Gary Collins.
Visitation was Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 at Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home with Recitation of the Rosary and the vigil liturgy. Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 at St. Kilianís Catholic Church. Father Mike Petrie officiated. Interment was at St. Kilianís Cemetery.
Memorials to the Jean Benka Scholarship Fund, Aurora Medical Center Hospice, AngelsGrace Hospice and St. Kilianís Endowment Fund will be appreciated.
