Rita M. Steinhilber

Rita M. Steinhilber, nee Halbur, 83, of West Bend died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center in West Bend.

She was born Aug. 16, 1922 in Butte, Neb. to the late Henry and Sidonie (nee Ertz) Halbur.

At an early age, Rita’s family moved to Wisconsin, settling on a farm north of Eden.

After her marriage to William Steinhilber on Nov. 20, 1954 at St. Mary’s Church in Eden, the couple moved to West Bend where she was employed at Enger Kress for 10 years.

In her spare time, Rita enjoyed making baby quilts for many family members and those who needed them.

She loved to travel, especially to the Great Plains states where many of her family were located.

Rita was a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters Court 574 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, William; five siblings, Bernard (Katherine) Halbur of Fond du Lac, Norbert (Mary) Halbur of West Allis, Sr. Bernadette Halbur of El Paso, Texas, Sr. Lucina Halbur of Milwaukee and Sr. Constance Halbur of Campbellsport, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her sister, Mary Peshman, and her brother, Gregory Halbur.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church, West Bend.

Rev. Michael Moran will be the presider, and burial will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s New Cemetery.

Visitation at the church only will be Tuesday from 3:30 until 6:45 p.m.

Masses or memorials to the charity of the donor’s choice are appreciated.
