Arthur J. "Art" Sprader

Arthur J. "Art" Sprader, 67, of West Bend, entered into eternal peace on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006 at Kathy Hospice.

Art was born May 20, 1938 to John and Gertrude (nee Lund) Sprader in Milwaukee, where he was also raised.

John and Gertrude passed away when Art was young, so he took the responsibilities upon himself to help raise his siblings.

His wisdom was made more of the information he found in books.

Art was wise to the world outside, and loved to enhance others and pass on his knowledge.

He served proudly and with great honor with the United States Marines and then again with the U.S. Coast Guard.

Art was a dedicated employee for over 30 years at Continental Can, until his retirement.

He had an enormous love for nature, and history was one of his greatest passions.

Art also enjoyed filling his time with ventures down the paths of genealogy, and loved spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

After one would walk away from a conversation with Art, they would have been enlightened with the "good" and understanding of any situation. He was a complex person who enjoyed all the simple things that life had to offer and can be remembered like this:

"Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same."

Art will be deeply missed by his cherished son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Tracy (nee Mittelsteadt) Sprader of West Bend; his dear grandchildren, Jeremy, Morgan and Eric; and his siblings, Gladys Aguilera of Milwaukee, Shirley McDowell of Chester, Va., James (Mary) Sprader of Belgium, Wis., Bernice King of Raleigh, N.C., Helen (Duane) Engel of Milwaukee, Lawrence (Lee) Sprader of Prince George, Va. and Darlene Ecklund of Red Wing, Minn.

He will also be missed by nieces, nephews, other special relatives and many dear friends.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Danny Aguilera; and a sister-in-law, Reva Sprader.

Private services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 2:30 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend, with Rev. James Hill officiating.

Cremation took place at Paradise Cremation Services of West Bend.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Kathy Hospice, 3232 Pleasant Valley Road, West Bend, 53095.
