John F. Van Derel

John F. Van Derel, 71, of Kewaskum, joined his wife and the good Lord on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006 at his daughter’s home after blessings and farewells from all of his children.

John was born on Aug. 17, 1934 to Gregory (Marie Pasque) Van Derel in Bayfield, and moved to Milwaukee in 1949.

Soon after their meeting, he married the late Maurita nee Witkowski on Dec. 26, 1953 in Milwaukee.

John was a carpenter by trade and owned his own remodeling business while building and supporting a family of nine children.

He ultimately retired from St. Mary’s Hospital in 1994 where he worked as a building supervisor.

John will always be remembered for his brutal honesty and his great sense of pride.

He enjoyed the outdoors, watching Nascar, the Packers, taking the sometimes too occasional trip to the casino, but most of all his two cats, Tiger and Mimi.

John will be deeply missed by his eight children, Mike (Fran) of Park Falls, Joe (El) of Jacksonville, Fla., Jean (Bill) Kopecky of Fond du Lac, Amy (Gary) Bohn of Kewaskum, Karen (Tom Pagel) Lechner of Hartford, Christopher (Pam) of West Bend, Pamela (Mickey) Lehman of Hartford and Andee (Lee) of Manitowoc; 17 grandchildren, Keri, Sara (Andy Sandman), Heather, Erik, James, Katie and Jennifer Kopecky, Patrick, Becky Bohn, Cindy (Charlie Hartz), Sean, Luke Lechner, Ellie, Emma, Bryanna Bell, Brennan Brown and Carley Higgins; a great-grandchild, Isabella Hartl and another on the way; and a sister, Mary Dymesich.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Maurita and a son, Patrick.

A funeral service to honor John will be held on Monday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend.

Father Ed Conrath will officiate, and interment will be on Tuesday at 9 a.m. in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 5 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m.

Memorials are appreciated.
