Florence E. Hammen

A memorial service was held on Jan. 2 at Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Grafton for Florence E. Hammen, formerly of Campbellsport and St. Cloud, who died on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005 at her home in Grafton at the age of 86. The Rev. Franz S. Rigert officiated the service. Visitation was held at the church on Jan. 2 and inurnment will take place at Elmore Cemetery in Campbellsport at a later date. Twohig Funeral Home in Campbellsport assisted the family with arrangements.

Florence was born on Aug. 26, 1919, the daughter of the late Louis and Meta Rathmann Windler. On April 3, 1937 she married Lester Hammen in New Fane. Florence attended Elmore School and worked at Regalware in Kewaskum for 12 years. She was a former member of the Campbellsport United Church of Christ where she was in the Women’s Guild and served on the Church Council. At the time of her passing she was an active member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Grafton. Florence had a great love of dogs and enjoyed knitting.

Florence is survived by her daughter Laverne (Donald) Johnson of Grafton; grandchildren Tim (Jane) Johnson of Germantown, Terry (Denise) Johnson of Waukesha, Donna (Jack) Wendtlandt of Grafton, Debra (Jim) Mayer of Grafton, John (Judy) Hammen of Winter Haven, Fla., Rachel Weber of Campbellsport and Peggy Anderson of Campbellsport; sisters Mildred (Elmer) Feuerhammer and Betty (Henry) Straub; brother-in-law Edwin Hammen; and sisters-in-law Flossy Seyfert and Elaine Werner. She is further survived by 17 great-grandchildren along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband Lester (on Sept. 1, 1978); son Lester Jr.; sister Ethel Windler; and two granddaughters Christine Lynn Hammen and Cindy Lou Hammen.
