Gertrude A. Kuehl

Gertrude A. Kuehl (nee Rackow) of Hartford passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006. at the Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee. She was 88 years old.

She was born Jan. 10, 1918 in Mayville to Gustav and Frieda (nee Ortman) Rackow. She married Clarence Kuehl in 1936 in Mayville.

Gertrude had a life filled with many different careers and interests.

She was a caretaker for individuals when families needed respite or individuals needed some extra help.

She worked at the Tri-Manor Care Center and she was the cook at Saylesville School. Gertrude belonged to the Hartford Senior Friends, American Legion and the VFW auxiliaries and the Ladies Aide at Peace Lutheran Church.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, playing cards and polka music.

She is survived by her children, Delores (Thomas) Abbott, Roger (Pat) Kuehl, Darlene (Mike) Wagner, Doris (Donald) Lechner and Russell (Beth) Kuehl, all of Hartford; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Kuehl of Iron Ridge; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; her brother, Rudolph Rackow of Mayville; her brother-in-law, Rueben (Arlene) Pribnow of Theresa; and her sister-in-law, Elvira Kamrath of Mayville. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her son, Robert; great grandson, Adam Kuehl; sister, Evelyn Sorgan; brother, Bill Rackow; step-sister, Dorothy (Wally) Mussack; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Rackow.

Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006 at Peace Lutheran Church in Hartford, with Rev. David Wietzke officiating.

Family greeted relatives and friends on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006 at Shimon Funeral Home in Hartford and on Saturday prior to the service. Interment was at St. Matthew’s Cemetery, Iron Ridge.

Memorials to Peace Lutheran Church or their Ladies Aide would be appreciated.
