Harold Joseph Keefe

A Mass of Christian burial was held today at St. Francis Borgia Church-South in Cedarburg for Harold Joseph Keefe, who passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 23, 2006 at the age of 88. The Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Tom Manahan, S.J. Visitation was held yesterday. Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg is assisting the family with arrangements.

Harold was born on July 25, 1917 in Buffalo, N.Y. He attended the University of Buffalo, where he was president of Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity. He served for five years in the U.S. Army during World War II, and saw combat in North Africa and Italy.

Harold was a longtime resident of Cedarburg and most recently of Alexian Village in Milwaukee. His career in the insurance industry spanned over 40 years, including 25 years with Continental Insurance Company, followed by associations with the Ryan-Schmidt Agency in Milwaukee and Koehler Insurance Agency in Cedarburg.

Harold was an avid golfer who won a number of championships throughout his career, including the club champion of the Niagara Falls Country Club in New York.

Harold was a founding member of the Wisconsin Mariners’ Club. He also belonged to the Blue Goose International, Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. and the American Legion. He had worked many volunteer positions and was actively involved with the Buffalo Skating Club and Ozaukee County Hockey Association. He served as president of the Wisconsin Insurance Association and St. Francis Borgia Home and School Association.

Harold is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen McCarthy Keefe; children Kate Myers (Greg) of Cedarburg, Dr. Marcy Keefe (Dan Karasch) of Fox Point, Jim (Ellen) Keefe of Philadelphia, Pa., Bob Keefe of West Bend and Peg (Jeremy) Davies of Bellingham, Wash.

Harold is further survived by his grandchildren Abbie, Laura, Danny Myers, Michael and Ben Karasch, Ryan and Sarah Keefe, Shannon, Isabel and Maya Davies.
