Eugene "Gene" Gertsch

Eugene "Gene" Gertsch, of the town of Cedarburg, passed away on Friday, Jan. 27, 2006 at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospice in Milwaukee, at the age of 87. Services for Eugene will be privately held and Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Gene was born in Wauwatosa on Nov. 6, 1918, son of the late John and Hannah (nee Tollefson) Gertsch. He served with the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during World War II. On June 14, 1958, he married Karen Van Altena at Fox Point Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Gene was vice president of First Wisconsin Bank and retired in 1981. He was a very active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg and also a member of Rose-Harms American Legion Post in Grafton.

Gene enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, reading and spending time with his family and his pets.

Gene is survived by his wife Karen; sons John Gertsch of Oregon, Bill (Sue) Gertsch and David Gertsch (both of Cedarburg); and grandsons Matt and Ryan Gertsch. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his brother John Gertsch.
