Arthur D. Wellner
Arthur D. Wellner, 81, of West Bend went home to be with the Lord on July 1, 2006 at his residence.
He was born in Scandinavia, Wis. and raised in Princeton where he attended high school, graduating with the class of 1943. He then served three years in the Navy during World War II, earning many awards.
He moved to Milwaukee where his sister introduced him to Mary T. Kielski, and they were married on June 29, 1946. They started a family, eventually settling in West Bend where he became a police officer for the next 33 years. Arthur was the first police detective West Bend ever had.
He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed hunting, ice fishing and golf.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (nee Kielski) Wellner. He is the loving father of Sharon (Sylvester) Muckerheide of Neillsville, Richard (Sally) Wellner of Jefferson, Ronald (Carol) Wellner of Mayville, Duane (fiancˇ Connie) Wellner of West Bend, Debra (John) Ruhnke of West Bend, Doreen Schneider of Wisconsin Dells, and Michael (Dawn) Wellner of West Bend. He is further survived by 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leroy (Terri) Wellner of Waukesha; four sisters, Evelyn Wilke and Alice Koepsel of Weyauwega, Arlene Schulta and Thelma Anderson of Milwaukee; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margaret Prieve; and five brothers-in-law.
A memorial service in honor of Arthur will be held on Friday, July 7 at 6 p.m. at Phillip Funeral Home in West Bend with Pastor Jean Bartlett officiating. Cremation will take place at Paradise Cremation Services of West Bend.
A visitation will be held on Friday from 4 p.m. until the memorial service at 6 p.m. at Phillip Funeral Home in West Bend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to either the Visiting Nurses Association, W194N16727 Eagle Drive S., Jackson, WI 53037, or The American Heart Association, 795 N. VanBuren, Milwaukee, WI 53202.
