Laverne Schmidt, 73, of Slinger, passed away Friday, July 7, 2006 at his residence.
Laverne was born May 8, 1933 to Elmer and Lillian (nee Rice) Schmidt in the town of Polk, where he was raised on the family farm until he established his own farm, also in the town of Polk.
On April 6, 1957, he married Rosemarie Dehler. After marriage, the couple began a family of their own.
During his younger years, Laverne was the pitcher for the Slinger baseball team. He loved to play basketball and enjoyed all sports.
He also enjoyed working in the shop on machinery and loved hunting with his dogs.
Laverne is survived by his son, Randal Schmidt and granddaughter, Cheryl; his son, Harold Schmidt; his son, Steven (Linda) Schmidt and grandson, Alex; grandson, Jacob (Jenna) Schmidt and great-granddaughter, Joanna; and granddaughters, Amber, Dana and Rebecca, children of Steven and former wife, Carol; his son, Dwain (Lisa) Schmidt and granddaughter, Kayla-Rose; and two brothers, Donald (Bernice) Schmidt and Kenneth (Elaine) Schmidt.
He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other special relatives and dear friends.
Laverne was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lillian.
A memorial service in honor of Laverne will be held on Saturday, July 15, at 2 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend, with Rev. Donald Koehn officiating.
Cremation will take place at Paradise Cremation Services of West Bend.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Saturday from noon until the time of the memorial service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
