Carol was born on May 29, 1940 and grew up in Birnamwood. She was valedictorian of her class at Birnamwood High School and graduated from Wisconsin State College, Stevens Point. Carol began her professional life as a home economics teacher and later went on to become a dedicated and much-loved day care provider.

Everyone who knew Carol would describe her as fun and energetic. She enjoyed camping, playing games and was an avid Badger, Brewers and Packers fan. Such an extraordinary and compassionate mother, few knew of her own difficult upbringing. Her children considered her their comforter, cheerleader and closest confidant. Carol had the rare gift of making each person in her life feel incredibly special, supported and loved. She was one cool grandma. There was no doubt how much she treasured her grandchildren and how much they adored her. She will be deeply missed but remembered and cherished always.

Carol is survived by James, her best friend and loving husband of 44 years; her children Rod (Carla), Kathy (Mark) Zander, Kari Ketter (Curtis Matter) and Geoff (fianceeĢ Beth); and grandchildren Ben, Sam, Gabe, Megan and Kayla.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in honor of grandchildren Sam and Kayla are appreciated. For online condolences, please visit
