Johanna E. "Joan" Kerzan

Johanna E. "Joan" Kerzan, 94, of West Bend passed away at the Samaritan Health Center on Sunday, June 11, 2006.

She was born in St. Joseph, Mo. on Aug. 12, 1911 to the late Martin V. and Anna (nee Pawlak) Szymarek, and was united in holy matrimony on Nov. 20, 1937 with Martin V. Kerzan at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chicago.

Her loving husband, "Marty," passed away on Aug. 9, 1984.

For many years Joan and Marty were faithful members of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish in Chicago.

Survivors include her son, Donald M. (Dale) Kerzan of Sandy Valley, Nev.; her daughter, Joan Sharon (Charles) Lukasik of West Bend, who was a loving caregiver to Johanna for many years; and two grandchildren, Scott B. (Jill Wester) Lukasik and Amanda M. Lukasik of West Bend.

Other survivors include nephews, Fr. Joseph Pitts OMI, Rudy Kerzan Jr. and Richard Kerzan and many beloved nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her son, Dennis Kerzan; her brother, Anthony (Agnes) Szy-marek; and six sisters, Cecelia (Victor) Woitushko, Stella (Alex) Jagodinski, Helen (Walter) Woitu-shko, Veronica (Joseph) Pitts, Martha (Henry) Krajniak and Barbara (Rudy) Kerzan.

Joan will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 15, at 10 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in West Bend, with Rev. Raphael Rodriguez presiding.

Burial beside her loving husband, Marty, will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Evergreen Park, Ill.

Visitation will be at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, on Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m.
