Francis Charles Cartwright

A Mass of Christian burial (followed by a supper) will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. on June 30 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grafton for Francis Charles Cartwright of Las Cruces, N.M. Francis passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at home in his sleep at the age of 60. Those interested in attending the memorial Mass and supper should call St. Joe’s at 375-6500.

Francis was born in Milwaukee on Nov. 21, 1945, son of La Vern and Ruth Bentzler. He was raised in Junction City by his maternal grandparents. Francis graduated from PJ Jacobs High School in Stevens Point in 1964 and married Noel Cartwright in November of 1965.

Francis was employed by A.O. Smith for 32 years and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He later worked at Trak International until he retired in 1999, due to his myotonic muscular dystrophy.

Francis was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts, served at the Milwaukee Folk Fair and raised money for muscular dystrophy research for the last seven years.

Francis is survived by his wife Noel (of 40 years); son Frank (Lisa); daughters Leah (Pete) Petersen, Melissa and Kristin (Ryan) Roddy; grandchildren Mia and Aidan Roddy; stepgrandson Zach Petersen; father La Vern Bentzler; sister Sharon (Ray) Mielke; mother-in-law Mary Stoke; and sister-in-law Vicki (Don) Massie. He is further survived by many other family members and friends.

Francis was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Schrader and his son Charles Francis.
