Jerome "Jerry" Kurzer

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Congregation Shalom, 7630 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Fox Point, for Jerome "Jerry" Kurzer. Jerry passed away on Monday, June 19, 2006 following a courageous battle with lung cancer at the age of 68. Burial will follow at Mound Zion Cemetery, 14510 W. North Ave., Brookfield. Jewish Community Funeral Home, 5820 W. Burleigh St., Milwaukee, WI 53210, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jerry was born in Milwaukee on Nov. 29, 1937 to Philip and Jeanette (nee Baron) Kurzer. He married Arlene Lakritz on Dec. 27, 1964.

Jerry started in the computer field as a systems analyst in 1962, and was employed by Nankin and Schnoll (which later became BDO Seidman). He was a member of Toastmaster International since 1977 and served as district governor for District 35 from 2000-01. Jerry enjoyed speaking and judging Toastmaster speech contests, especially youth contests, and working crossword puzzles. He was also a former Worshipful Master of Milwaukee Harmony Lodge No. 142, F. & A.M. Jerry’s greatest joy was taking care of his granddaughter, Megan.

Jerry is survived by his wife Arlene Kurzer; son Scott (Shua-Hua Wang) Kurzer; daughter Robyn (David) Markelz; granddaughter Megan Markelz; brother Robert (Susan) Kurzer; and brother-in-law Edward Chulew. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Barbara Chulew.

Contributions in Jerry’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 902, Pewaukee, WI 53072, directed toward tobacco cessation programs or lung cancer research.
