Ralph C. "Smokey" Roemer

Ralph C. "Smokey" Roemer of Hartford passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Feb. 24, 2006 at his residence. He was 76 years old.

He was born June 24, 1929 in the town of Erin to Harvey and Lilly (nee Thom) Roemer. Ralph was the supervisor for buildings and grounds at the Hartford School District for more than 30 years. He loved refinishing and antiquing furniture. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, going up north, fixing things, cooking, gardening and reading.

He is survived by Joyce Roemer; seven children, Stephen Roemer of Jackson, Christine (Christopher) McKee of Texas, Shawn Roemer of Ashippun, Darrell (Bev Ann) Herriges of Alabama, Kirk (Wendy) Herriges of Kewaskum, Debra (Randy) Helt of Oconomowoc and Kevin Herriges; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sherenne; his brothers, Ervin and Robert; and his sisters, Delores (Harvey) Nelson and Sylvia Roemer.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 7 p.m. at Shimon Funeral Home in Hartford, with Rev. Robert Kirchman officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
