LaVera Priaulx

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon today at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 145 Church St., Saukville for LaVera Priaulx, formerly of Elmwood, who passed away peacefully in the morning hours on Friday, March 10, 2006 at Dekora Springs Long Term Care Facility in Saukville. She was 92. The Rev. Karl Acker will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in West Lawn Cemetery in Racine. The family will receive visitors at the church today from 11 a.m. until time of service. The Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington is assisting the family.

LaVera was born in Racine on June 26, 1913, daughter of Michael A. and Cecelia Hammes. She was united in marriage with Ernest J. Priaulx in Racine on May 25, 1938. The couple resided in Racine until Ernest preceded her in death on March 23, 1995.

LaVera was a well-known piano teacher, having taught lessons out of her home for over 30 years. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and the Altar Society. A woman of many talents, she enjoyed music and crafts. She had traveled to all 50 states, finally making it to Alaska while in her 80s. Mrs. Priaulx was also a member of a card club that she started in high school with three other friends; they played pinochle once a week for over 40 years. Most important to LaVera were her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Ernest "Miche" (Judith) Priaulx of Saukville; three grandchildren, Cassandra (fiancˇ Leonard Hanson) Priaulx of Milwaukee, Bret Priaulx of Whitewater and Michael Priaulx of Madison; brothers Elroy (Doris) and Dr. James Hammes; sisters-in-law Barbara Workman Hammes and Eileen Hammes, all of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Donald Hammes.
