Clarice L. Monis

Clarice L. Monis (nee Lunde) of Ashippun passed away Friday, March 10, 2006 at Angelís Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc. She was 89 years old.

She was born July 23, 1916 in Washington D.C. to Sigurd and Ellen (nee Hanson) Lunde. She married G. Erwin Monis on May 16, 1942 at St. Olafís Church.

Clarice graduated from Oconomowoc High School, attended and graduated from the Dodge County Normal Teachers College in Mayville, went on to the University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She graduated from UW-Whitewater and received her bachelorís degree in teaching. She taught in many one-room schoolhouses and the Hartford School District for many years. She was a member of the Ashippun School Board for many years. Clarice loved music and loved her church. This came together for her to become the choir director at St. Olafís for more than 50 years. She also taught Sunday school and VBS for many years. She was involved with the LCR Childrenís Group and the Womenís Group. Clarice loved cross-stitching, Norwegian Rosemal painting and traveling (especially her trip to Norway).

She is survived by her a son George (Elaine) Monis of Oconomowoc, her daughter Judith Christenson of Watertown; her grandchildren, Cassandra (Barry) Strohbusch, Kimberly (Dale) Preston, Burton (Milissa) Christenson, Peder (Trisha) Monis, Jill (Thomas) Schwanz, Heather (Shainon) Coon and Karl (Kathleen) Monis; her great grandchildren, Kathryne, Alexandra, Rachel, Collin, Abigail, Molly, Thayer, Jack and Garrett; her sister, Esther Christenson of Rubicon; and her brother, Sigurd Lunde of Oconomowoc. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, G. Erwin Monis; a sister, Dorothea Bennett; an infant brother, Frederick Lunde; grandson, Jacob Christenson; great-grandson, Grant Monis; and son-in-law, Duane Christenson.

Memorial funeral services will be Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 3 p.m. at St. Olafís Lutheran Church, W653 Roosevelt Road, town of Ashippun, with Rev. Craig Anderson officiating.

Family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday from 11:30 to 3 p.m. at the church. Inurnment will be at St. Olafís Cemetery prior to the memorial celebration. No flowers, instead donations to St. Olafís Lutheran Church Building Fund or Angelís Grace Hospice appreciated.
