Eugene "Gene" Koch
Eugene "Gene" Koch, 81, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Hartford, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2006 at Woods of Manatee Springs Rehab Center in Bradenton.
He was born Nov. 22, 1924 in Hartford, the son of Cornelius and Mary (nee Multhauf) Koch, and married Bernice Otte on Dec. 6, 1946 in West Bend.
She preceded him in death in 1992.
He then married Janis (nee Amspaugh) White on March 26, 1994 in Bradenton.
Gene lived and farmed on the Koch farm that his great-grandparents owned next to Holy Hill until 1956, when he built a new home not far from the farm.
Gene lived nearly all of his life near Holy Hill.
After moving off the farm, he worked for D.M. & C.M. Frey Construction of Hartford as a supervisor.
He eventually started his own home repair business with his wife Bernice. He continued his business until eight years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Janis; a son, Gary (Cheryl) Koch of Hartford; his grandchildren, Gregory Koch of Hartford and Kathryn (Benjamin) McHugh of Germantown; a sister, Rosetta Sturm of Hartford; a brother, Ruben (Dorothy) Schultz of Iron Ridge and a sister-in-law, Wilma Otte of Slinger.
Also surviving are stepchildren, Greg (Nancy) White of Paulding, Ohio, Jane (James) Kagy of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dennis (Brenda) White and Michael White, both of Dundee, Mich.
He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Bernice; two infant children; a sister, Corrine Buth; brothers-in-law, Howard Buth, Dale Otte, Fritz Stefan and Martin Sturm; and a sister-in-law, Florence Stefan.
Memorial funeral services will be held Thursday, May 4, at 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Hartford with Rev. Brian Kundinger officiating.
Family will greet relatives and friends at the church Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m.
Inurnment will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Emmanuel Cemetery near Holy Hill.
