Anita T. Christensen

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Anita T. Christensen of Cedarburg will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Crossroads Presbyterian Church, 6031 W. Chapel Hill Road in Mequon. Anita passed away peacefully on Friday, May 19, 2006 at the Lasata Care Center, at the age of 85. Family will receive friends at a reception following the services. Private burial services took place in Beloit. Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home of Mequon is serving the family.

Anita was born in Beloit and graduated from Beloit High School in 1938. She also graduated from Miss Ward’s Private Business School in 1939. Anita worked as a secretary from 1939 to 1944 at Yates-American Machine Company in Beloit. From 1944 to 1945, she was employed as secretary to the manager of the production and service parts department at the Fairbanks Morse Company in Beloit. From 1945 to 1952, she served as secretary to the general manager of the Fairbanks Morse Company. From 1952 to 1967, she took a break from the workforce and became a full-time mother and homemaker. These were the happiest years of her life. In 1967, she re-entered the workforce as a secretary for the law firm of Hanson, Eggers, Berres and Kelly in Beloit. She finished her career as a secretary at the First Presbyterian Church in Beloit, where she worked from 1969 to 1987.

Anita moved from Beloit to Port Washington in 1989. In 2004, she and her husband moved to Lasata in Cedarburg. Anita’s greatest joys and proudest accomplishments in life were her children and grandchildren.

Anita is survived by her children Cindy (Steve) Shallock of Mequon and Tom (Kim) Christensen of St. Germain; and grandchildren Sarah, Andy, Emma, Erik and Noah. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Anita was preceded in death seven weeks ago by her husband of 60 years, Jerry Christensen.
