Gladys E. Rostad

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. this morning at Advent Lutheran Church in Cedarburg for Gladys E. Rostad of Cedarburg, who passed away on Friday, Nov. 3, 2006 at the age of 93. Interment will take place at Zur Ruhe Cemetery. Instate yesterday at Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg.

Gladys Rostad was born in Fargo, N.D., on Dec. 25, 1912. She graduated from Moorhead, Minn., High School where she was a track star and a member of the honor society and debate team. She later graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse in North Dakota. Following her marriage to Merlin Rostad, she and her husband moved to Chicago, where they lived for 15 years. In Chicago, Gladys worked for a large medical practice. She also studied voice and even considered a professional singing career. In late 1949, Gladys and Merlin moved to Cedarburg. Gladys was vice president of Rostad Aluminum Corporation in Grafton and worked there for 50 years.

At various times Gladys was active in organizations supporting the Cedarburg Girl Scouts, the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Milwaukee Symphony. She was a member and an officer of the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin (Milwaukee). Merlin and Gladys also maintained a home on Galt Ocean Mile, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., for 34 years. An avid golfer, Gladys was a member of the Milwaukee Country Club where she shot two holes in one, and the Coral Ridge Country Club in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., where she also shot a hole in one.

Gladys was the beloved wife and best friend of Merlin; mother of Susan (Randy) Weil, Penelope Rostad and Richard (Kathleen) Rostad; grandmother of Alexandra and Aaron Weil, Christopher (Joellen) Rostad and Andrew and Alana Rostad; great-grandmother of Savanna Rostad; and sister of Virginia Borgen. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.
