Leon Sherman, 71, of Plain-field passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006.
He was born Feb. 15, 1935 in Allenton, the son of John and Cordelia (Schliesmann) Sherman, and married JoAnn C. Wallner on Oct. 6, 1962 at St. Paulís Catholic Church, Plainfield.
Leon was a 1954 graduate of Tri-County High School.
He was a member of St. Paulís Catholic Church in Plainfield, along with the Knight of Columbus and volunteered 20 years with the church choir.
He was a member of the Plainfield Volunteer Fire Depart-ment for 21 years, served as the town of Plainfield clerk for many years and was a rural mail carrier in the Plainfield area until his retirement.
Leon served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Plainfield/Waushara VFW Post 6007.
An avid sports enthusiast, Leon enjoyed football, hunting and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn; two children, Joe (Brenda) Sherman of Sturtevant and Cathy (Tom) Schaars of Plainfield; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Jennifer Schaars; a brother, George (Radine) Sher-man of Plainfield; two sisters, Eunice (Matt) Klein of West Bend and Louise (Richard) Precourt of Winter Haven, Fla.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters, Geraldine and Margaret.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at St. Paulís Catholic Church, Plainfield.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
The Leikness and Stahl Funeral Home of Plainfield assisted the family with arrangements.
