Eugene C. Heberer

Eugene C. Heberer, 79, of West Bend, formerly of Milwaukee, passed away Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 at Kathy Hospice after a seven-month battle with cancer.

He was born on Sept. 13, 1927 in Milwaukee to the late George and Vi-olet (nee Kruse) Heberer, and on Sept. 12, 1953 he was united in marriage to Joyce Knie at Cross Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.

Gene served his country in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army.

He was a city of Milwaukee police officer for 34 years, retiring in 1984.

Gene was an active member of Covenant Lutheran Church in Milwaukee for many years.

After moving to West Bend in 1991, he became an active member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in West Bend.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; two children, Beth (Bruce Johns) Cruz of Sheboygan and Greg (Jean) Heberer of Cedar-burg; four grandchildren, Aman-da Cruz, Alan Cruz, Stephen Heberer and Jamie Heberer; a brother, Wayne (Joan) Heberer of Sussex; two sisters-in-law, Audrey Heberer of Waukesha and Kath-leen (Tom) Moerman of Lake-wood; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Heberer and Calvin Heberer.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 11 a.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 462 Meadowbrook Drive, West Bend.

Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service, and a reception will follow the service.

Following cremation, inurnment will be in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
