Willard J. Kirst
Willard J. Kirst, 90, of West Bend, formerly of Newburg, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006 at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center, West Bend.
He was born Feb. 8, 1916 in Newburg to the late Frank and Anna (nee Kraus) Kirst, and married Marie C. Miller on Oct 1, 1938 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Newburg.
Marie passed away on July 15, 1995.
Willard worked at Kirst Meat Market from the age of 13, and later, along with his brothers, Herb and Jerome, took over the business from their father until closing the meat market in 1971.
Willard then worked at the Samaritan Health Center as the buyer and meat cutter in the kitchen until retiring in 1980.
He was a longtime resident of Newburg until moving to West Bend in 1991.
He was a member of the Father Casper Rehrl Council 1964 Knights of Columbus in West Bend.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly (Dennis) Biertzer of Arbor Vitae and Kay Kirst of West Bend; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by a brother, Herb (Emily) of Newburg; a sister, Dorothy Dorn of Milwaukee; three sisters-in-law, Doris Kirst and Bernice Mayer, both of Newburg, and Marion Jamrosy of Cedarburg; his close friend, Coletta Strupp of West Bend; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Willard was preceded in death by a son, James; a daughter, Dianne Schirle; a brother, Jerome; and a sister, Lilliam Blazel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Newburg.
Rev. Guy Gurath will be the presider, and burial will be Thursday in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Visitation at the church only will be Wednesday from 4 until 5:45 p.m.
