Richard L. "Smitty" Smith
Richard L. "Smitty" Smith of Hartford passed away Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006 at his residence. He was 70 years old.
He was born April 24, 1936 in Milwaukee to Daniel and Cecilia (nee Blum) Smith. He married Phyllis Talajkowski on Nov. 23, 1957 at St. Kilian Catholic Church in Hartford.
"Smitty" had been a police officer in Hartford for 25 years. The last 10 years of his career he served as the juvenile officer liaison at the high school. He also enjoyed working with the Special Education classes. Smitty was a member of the Courtney-Carr-Milner American Legion Post #19.
He loved fishing and started the fisheree at the mill pond. He was dedicated to his faith and prayed the rosary daily.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, especially the kids.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Phyllis; one daughter, Yvonne Endres of Hartford; two sons, Douglas of Hartford, and Hugh (fiancˇ Cecilia) Smith of Colorado; two grandchildren, Shannon Endres and Alex Smith; one sister, Judith Smith of California; three brothers-in-law, Robert Cooper of California, Bob (Mary Ann) Talajkowski of Hartford and Jerome (Wendy) Talajkowski of Hartford; one sister-in-law, Marlene (Robert) Hawkins of Menomonee Falls; and his little buddy and companion, "Molly," his cat. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Smitty was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Dennis; and his sister, Alice.
Memorial funeral services and Rosary will be Friday, Oct. 27, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. at Shimon Funeral Home, 824 Union St. (Highway 83), Hartford, with Fr. David LaPlante officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends on Friday from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials to St. Kilian for masses or the renovation fund or to Hartford High School for the Special Education classes are appreciated.
