Don was born Jan. 17, 1923 to Joseph and Bessie (nee Hard-licka) Turek in Milwaukee.
Don was the beloved husband for 58 years and best friend of Dorothy (nee Patterson) Turek. He is the cherished father of Paul J. Turek of North Lake and Patricia (Kenneth) Ott-mann of Glendale; and the dearest grandfather of Kristin (Joe) Nesbit and Jonathan Turek. Don is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marion Turek; and many wonderful friends and relatives.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Bessie Turek; his brother, Jerry Turek; his very special daughter-in-law, Joyce Turek; and grandson, Joshua Turek.
Donald was a decorated United States Army soldier, who served in the European and Pacific theaters during World War II.
He landed with the second wave at Omaha Beach during the Normandy Invasion. His unit continued fighting in Belgium, France and Germany.
During the Battle of the Buldge, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant. During that action, his platoon suffered 90 percent casualties.
As the war in Europe came to an end, Donald was transferred to the Pacific Theater. There he participated in actions at Anawitoc and Okinawa Island.
After serving his country, Donald returned home and married Dorothy Patterson in 1948. He joined the Milwaukee Fire Department and retired in 1979.
He was a member of several Czech Fraternal Groups. Don was an avid fisherman, who spent many summers on the lakes of Poygan, Winnebago and Winneconne.
His fondest times were sitting on the pier at Lake Poygan, cane pole in hand, watching the sunset.
