Ronald R. Ponfil

A service of remembrance will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Wenig Funeral Home, 108 Center Ave., Oostburg, for Ronald R. Ponfil, 65, of Sheboygan and formerly of Cedarburg, who died at his home on Friday morning, Sept. 22, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. The Rev. Kent Vant Hul will officiate. Full military honors will follow. Friends may call at the funeral home today, 5 p.m. until the service. The staff of the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg (920-564-2771) is serving the Ponfil family.

Ron was born in Crivitz on March 5, 1941, a son of the late Anton and Mary (Porfilio) Ponfil. He was a 1959 graduate of Crivitz High School and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. On June 27, 1964, he married the former Lynda Tordeur in Cedarburg. Ron was a plumber by trade and had been employed at Cliff Bergin and Associates in Mequon for 40 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Plumbers Union and enjoyed cruises, going to the casino, NASCAR, sports, travel, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife Lynda; a daughter Tania (Mike) Switon of Cedar Grove; a son, Brian (Kelly) Ponfil of Glendale, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Zachary Hauser and Emily Switon; five sisters, Helen Franzen, Louise Sprouse and Donna Martens all of Crivitz, Aggie Witak of Peshtigo and Vi Dart of Green Bay; brother Paul Ponfil of Cedarburg; sister-in-law Rita (William) Dehn of Rhinelander; mother-in-law June Tordeur of Marinette and many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Craig Ponfil; his father-in-law, Clarence Tordeur; and five brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and entire staff at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, the VNA and the Aurora Hospice Service of Sheboygan for the care and support given during Ronís battle with cancer.
