Raymond N. Decker Jr.

A memorial service with military honors was held on March 26 for Raymond N. Decker Jr. of Green Valley, Ariz. (formerly of Cedarburg and Port Washington). Raymond died at the age of 71 on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at St. Maryís Hospital in Tucson, Ariz. The memorial service was officiated by the Rev. John W. Stieve at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Savior and interment took place at the churchís columbarium.

Raymond was born on May 4, 1935 in Port Washington, son of Raymond N. and Olga E. (nee Harrer) Decker Sr.

From 1953-57, Raymond was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard. As a 1st class engineman, he served aboard a cutter out of Corpus Christi, Texas and also with the harbor patrol in New Orleans, La.

On Feb. 27, 1960, Raymond married Diane Andrews of Cedarburg at St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Port Washington. He was employed by the Wisconsin Electric Power Company for 37 years and retired as shift superintendent in 1994.

In 1965, Raymond served as the commodore of the Port Washington Yacht Club and, from 1969-71, served as harbor master in Port Washington. In addition to his love of boating on Lake Michigan, Raymond loved nature and especially exploring the desert surrounding Green Valley, Ariz., where he made his home for the past seven years. He loved his home, swimming, gardening and especially canning his "Rayís Dandy Dills." Raymond loved playing his ukulele and tinkering with his 1940s cars in his earlier years. He also enjoyed the hobby of collecting coins. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Risen Savior in Green Valley.

Raymond was a gentle, caring husband, father, brother and son, who always gave generously of his time. He will be sadly missed.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 47 years, Diane (nee Andrews) Decker of Green Valley; his children Randall (Jodi) of Minneapolis, Minn., Wendy (Stuart) Frazen of Saukville, Joell (Scott Meverden) of Oconto Falls; his sister Helen M. (Bill) Sauer of Lewisburg, Pa; his grandchildren Alexian, Arthur, Joshua, Justin and Nickolas; and his great-grandchild Ranen.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents Raymond N. and Olga E. (nee Harrer) Decker Jr.; his brother Richard L. Decker; his daughter Ann Marie Decker; and his granddaughter Machaela Decker (Meverden).
