Ralph W. Port
A memorial service will be held for Ralph W. Port of Grafton at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Mueller Funeral Home in Grafton. Ralph entered into eternal life on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at the age of 83. The Rev. Paul Bulgerin will officiate the memorial service. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., prior to the memorial service.
Ralph was born on Jan. 11, 1924 in Grafton, the son of Fred W. and Mary (nee Stib) Port. He served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army. Shortly after his honorable discharge, Ralph married the love of his life, Gladys Hackbarth, on June 28, 1947 in Port Washington. Their marriage was blessed with four children.
Ralph worked for his father for many years at the Grafton-Milwaukee Transportation Line. He eventually took over the family business and became its sole owner. Ralph retired in 1977 and went on to love his winters with Gladys in Mexico.
Ralph was a very active person in his community. He served on many boards including the Ozaukee Bank Board (where he was one of the founding members), the Grafton School Board, the Ozaukee County Board and the Village of Grafton Board.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gladys Port of Grafton; children Michael Port of Madison, Liz (Greg) Turnbaugh of Wesmont, Ill., Tom (Susan) Port of Colgate and Kathy (John) Gac of Chicago, Ill.; sister Bernice Vollmar of Cedarburg; and brothers-in-law Robert Hackbarth of Kewaskum and Charles Kupres of Gary, Ind. Ralph is further survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings Elroy Port, Marie Kupres and Fred Port.
Ralph will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
