John Albert Hilsmann

John Albert Hilsmann, 75, passed from this life on Thursday, April 19, 2007.

He was born in Chicago to Johannes and Hilde Hilsmann, and lived in Germany until he returned to Zion, Ill. to complete high school.

A student at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) in Milwaukee, John was active in the arts, including community theatre.

He previously coached the sport of fencing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, MATC and the YMCA.

John co-owned Wisconsin Audio Visual and was most recently employed for Audio Visual of Wisconsin.

He chose, and was blessed to be able give the greatest gift of life through organ donation.

John was married in 1956 to Melicent Hilsmann (Wapp) for 22 years and is survived by his siblings, Rudy (Linda) Hilsmann and family of Germantown, and Christa Borshel and family of Germany.

John is also survived by four children, John (Barbara) Hilsmann of Hubertus, Cindy (Majed) Kahhat of Tuscon, Ariz., Ray (Rache’l) Hilsmann of Fort Meyers, Fla. and Linda (Jim) Kaplan of East Troy.

He was dearly loved by 15 grandchildren, Lana, Heidi, Erika, Cathleen; Ashley and John-Hanna Kahhat; Mariah, Megan, Samantha; Cassie and Theresa McMahon, Pam, James, Bryan, Steve Kaplan, and great- grandson Trey Hinton.

Preceeding him in death was a son, Wayne James.

Special friends in life included Mary Scherrer, Frank Lorbiecki and all of his coworkers at Audio Visual of Milwaukee.

A memorial Mass was held Tuesday, April 24, at 11a.m. at Mater Dolorosa Church, Little Kohler.

The A.A. Schmidt & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Menomonee Falls, assisted the family.
