Rosemarie Alf, 80

Rosemarie Alf, nee Ploen, of West Bend died on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007 under the care of the Kathy Hospice at the age of 80.

She was born on Jan. 23, 1927 in Marshfield to the late Bert and Laura (nee Kipp) Ploen.

After graduating from high school, she met her husband to be, Marshall Alf. The couple was married on Aug. 30, 1947. Marshall predeceased Feb. 11, 2005.

Rosemarie was a devoted wife of 57 years. In addition to raising four children, she was a valuable business partner of her late husband.

They successfully ran two businesses together, most recently Julie Ann Fabrics Franchise in West Bend until their retirement.

Her family was everything to her in the world. A family get together meant great food and lots of it, a room filled with laughter and usually ended in a hot game of sheepshead.

Rosemarie was a great cook. She could make great tasting gravy from almost any stock. Also, she was an accomplished and exceptionally speedy seamstress. She could burn up a good sewing maching long before the warranty could expire.

Survivors include her children Steve Alf of Glidden Jeanne (Patrick) Wallschlaeger of Wausau and Donna (Jeff) Weide of Greenfield; nine grandchildren, Nathan Alf, Stephanie (Reggie) Gliss, Molly (Cory) Lewis, Alex Alf, Brian (Nikki) Wallschlaeger, Scott Wallschlaeger, Mariah Alf, Penny Weide and Jill Weide; five great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Cindy Alf; two sisters, Helen (Donald) Baird and Bernice (Marvin) Riedell; a brother, Jerry Ploen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son William, a grandson Christopher Wallschlaeger and three brothers Robert, Chuck and Harold.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Aug. 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeff Haines presiding.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the church only on Monday from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to the Kathy Hospice, where she re-ceived compassionate and loving care in her final days.

The Schmidt Funeral Home of West Bend is serving the family,
