Robert G. Schmidt

Robert G. Schmidt of Waldo passed away late Wednesday afternoon on Dec. 5, 2007 at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, following a courageous battle with cancer and diabetes, at the age of 70.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated for Robert on Dec. 8 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. The Very Rev. Dennis Van Beek, pastor of the church, officiated the service.

Visitation was held prior to the funeral Mass and entombment took place in the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum in the town of Sheboygan.

The Plymouth VFW World Cheese Center Post 5612 conducted military rites at the church following the services.

The Suchon Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Plymouth served his family.

Robert was born on March 3, 1937 in Milwaukee, son of the late William N. and Mildred C. Warzyn Schmidt. He attended Milwaukee Grade School and Milwaukee Boys Tech and graduated with his GED from Lakeland Technical College.

Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954. He was attached to the Red Arrow Division out of Milwaukee and served during the Berlin crisis. He also served in the Wisconsin National Guard, with the 121st Infantry Division out of Plymouth, and retired in 1990 after serving for 21 years.

On May 18, 1957 he married Gloria Maus at St. Ceciliaís Catholic Church in Thiensville. The couple lived in Mequon and Port Washington before moving to Waldo in 1972.

Robert owned Bobís Enco Service Station in Thiensville for eight years. He then worked for 31 years at the Valley Transport Company (now known as the Johnson Bus Service) as a diesel technician, retiring in 2002.

Robert was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. He was also a member of the Elkhart Lake Farmerís Market for the past 16 years.

Robert loved horticulture and was a member of Masterís Gardeners in Sheboygan. He started his own apple orchard in Waldo, known as "Windcrest Acres."

He also enjoyed the hobby of model railroading.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years Gloria of Waldo; his children Suzanne (Lonny) Koene of Plymouth, Sandra (Dennis) Armistead of West Bend, Sharon Schmidt (friend Bob Otte) of Plymouth, Shelly Schmidt of Waldo, Steve (Lisa) Schmidt of Cascade; grandchildren Ryan Schmidt of Waldo, Christopher Koene of Plymouth, Travis and Taylor Schmidt of Cascade and Stacy and Kellie Armistead of West Bend; great-grandchildren Jenna Vere of Arizona and Elena Koene of Plymouth; his sister Dorothy (Fred) Wilson of Bullard, Texas; his brother-in-law Ray (Lynne) Maus of Slinger; his nephews John, Adam and Eric; and his nieces Cindy and Mary. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Robertís name.
