Peter A. Werni Sr.
Peter A. Werni Sr., 78, entered eternal peace on Monday, Dec. 24, 2007 at SynergyHealth St. Joseph’s Hospital, West Bend.
He was born on July 16, 1929 in Zemlin, Yugoslavia to the late Anton and Margareta (nee Frederich) Werni.
During the war, he immigrated to Austria, where he worked on the Kaprun Dam and also worked on tunnels through mountains in Ternberg.
He then moved to Beatrice, Neb., and finally settled in Milwaukee. He married Dolores nee Brandes on March 6, 1953 at St. Boniface Church in Milwau-kee.
Peter served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Kitzigen, Germany with his wife until his discharge.
He worked at Globe Van Doorn and The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for 30 years.
Pete loved hunting, fishing, working outdoors, gardening and carpentry.
He looked forward to his purple Martins every April.
He also loved animals and nature and was devoted to his family; they were most important in his life. He was a devoted husband and father.
Peter enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dolores; sons, Eric (Vickie) of Sullivan, Douglas (Sandra) of West Bend and Peter, Jr. (Alice) of Cedarburg; seven grandchildren, Eric Jr., Arin (Michael) Alex-ander, Adam (Jennifer), Christ-opher (Melanie), Jared, Michael, and Daniel; five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Ryan, Zachary, Emily Ann and Ava; a brother, Paul (Carol) of Merrill; sisters, Greta (Hans) Pichler of Germany and Kathrina (Eugene) Ganter of Milwaukee; loving goddaughter, Terri (Deni) O’Niel; a dear friend, Alex "Dabar" Lapajenko; and his beloved pet, Schatzi.
He is further survived by other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Private funeral services were held at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend.
