A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Dec. 30 for Leo Rausch of Mequon at Lumen Christi Catholic Church in Mequon. Leo died at the age of 82 on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006 at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon. The Rev. Peter J. Berger celebrated the Mass. Entombment with full military honors took place at Resurrection Cemetery in Mequon. The Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington assisted the family with the arrangements.
Leo was born on Aug. 22, 1924 in Milwaukee, son of Leo and Florence Burkholz Rausch. He served as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On Sept. 16, 1950 he married Rita Ruesch in Milwaukee. Leo was a partner in the Herb Fitzgerald Company in Milwaukee until his retirement. He was a member of Lumen Christi Catholic Church in Mequon and the Thiensville-Mequon Howard J. Schroeder Post. He was also a member of the Thiensville Volunteer Fire Department for 57 years. Leo enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.
Leo is survived by his wife Rita; children Greg (Kris) Rausch of Mequon and Michelle (Philip) Neary of Cedarburg; grandchildren Steven, Michael and Elizabeth Neary, and Emily and Alyson Rausch; brother William (Pat) Rausch of Thiensville; and sister Rosemary Schorse of Fond du Lac. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
