Elizabeth "Betty" Brueggemann

Funeral services were held on Jan. 2 for Elizabeth "Betty" Brueggemann of Grafton at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton. Betty died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006 at the Highlands of Newcastle in Mequon. Entombment took place at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, Ind., on Jan. 3. Mueller Funeral Home in Grafton served the family.

Elizabeth E. (nee Kunde) Brueggemann was born on March 22, 1931 in Hammond, Ind., the daughter of Otto and Elizabeth Kunde. On Sept. 1, 1951, she married Wallace Brueggemann of Nashville, Ill., at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hammond. Her husband Wallace preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 1993.

Betty graduated from Hammond High in 1949. She met Wallace during his teaching internship at St. Paul Lutheran School in Hammond. Betty was a faithful and strong supporter of her husband’s work for the Lord as a Lutheran schoolteacher and principal, a ministry that served congregations in Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Lincoln, Neb., until his retirement. She held many office positions throughout her working life, including her position as administrative assistant with American Signature Printing for over 25 years. In 1996, she moved to Grafton to be closer to her family. In Grafton she worked for Bob Liedtke’s AAL insurance agency and did volunteered work in the church office at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Betty was the beloved mother of Phil and Mark (Karen) Brueggemann (both of Grafton); the loving sister of Rudy Kunde of Munster, Ind.; and the close companion of Arno Jobs of Saukville. Betty’s grandchildren Alison and Katie Brueggemann, "her sweeties," also survive her. She will be remembered by extended family and numerous friends.

Betty’s sense of humor and quick wit will be missed. She enjoyed life to its fullest, although a life that pales in comparison to the life she now has with our Lord.

The family wishes to thank the many physicians and health care givers for their professionalism and superb care. A special thank you also goes out to the fine staff at Newcastle Place who provided loving comfort and care to Betty during her final months. Along with her strong will and confident faith in our Lord, as well as the many prayers of friends and family, Betty was able to experience life beyond expectations.

Memorials can be made out to the choir fund at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Neb., Concordia University in Chicago or St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton. For online condolences, please visit www.muellerfuneralhome.com.
