A private family service was held for Margaret C. Harvey (nee Carey) of Cedarburg. Margaret died at the age of 96 on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006 at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon. Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg served the family.

Margaret was born in Clinton, Iowa, on Feb. 17, 1910, the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (nee Duffy) Carey. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1930, where she was a Delta Gamma.

The Harveys raised their family in South Bend, Ind., where they were members of St. Matthew’s parish and active volunteers in the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Christ Child Society. In 1985, the family moved to McLean, Va. This past summer, Margaret moved to Cedarburg to be near her daughter and family.

Margaret loved to travel, work crossword puzzles, read and socialize. She competed in and won several age-class walking races into her 90s. She was always interested in learning new things and encouraging young people in their endeavors.

Margaret is survived by her children Margo (Clifford) Janiak of Cedarburg, Alice (Peter) Herman of Scarsdale, N.Y., Marian (Bob Meyers) Harvey of McLean, Va., Dr. Robert Harvey of San Francisco, Calif., and Thomas (Cathleen Black) Harvey of New York, N.Y.; and her grandchildren Meaghan, Erin, Pat, Duffy, Alison, Caroline, Peter, Morgan, April, James and David.
