Alice W. Uehling

Alice W. Uehling, 97, formerly of her beloved Beloit, passed away suddenly, quietly and painlessly on Monday, Jan. 1, 2007 at her assisted living apartment, The Legacy, in Hartford. She was born Jan. 26, 1909 in Beloit, the daughter of Finn and Emma Krause Winger. As she neared her 98th birthday on Jan. 26, 2007, she remained exquisite in looks, mentally alert, inquisitive and articulate. Alice was a 1927 graduate of Beloit High School. She married Chester T. Uehling on Oct. 6, 1933 in Beloit. He predeceased her on April 6, 1989. Alice was employed by Freeman Shoe, retiring in 1933. She was a Beloit Hospital Auxiliary volunteer for 25 years. Alice was a member of two book clubs, the English Study Club and the Thursday Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Sara E. U. (Earl "Bud") Hudson of Hartford; grandchildren, Peter (Andree) Hudson of Evergreen, Colo., David (Katy) Hudson of Portland, Ore., and Heidi (Stephen) Hudson-Mairet of Wauwatosa; great grandchildren, Bella and Addie Hudson, Elise and Ava Mayo Hudson, Emma and Gracie Hudson-Mairet; nieces and nephews, Mary Alice "Mimi" (Julio) Veyna, Eugene (Susan) Winger, Joan (Johnny) Paulson, Phyllis (Jerry) Mathews, Gladys Uehling Wackman, and Richard (Ginger) Uehling and their families.

She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Eugene A. Winger; and a nephew, John T. Winger.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, with Reverend Gene VanGalder officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in her name to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, the ALS Association or Second Congregational Church.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff and her friends at The Legacy of Hartford for the care given to Alice. After 97 years, she will be missed by her family and her many friends.
