Erwin L. "Grandpa Erv" Skalstad

Erwin L. "Grandpa Erv" Skalstad, 83, of Rubicon passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007 at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born on the family farm in Rubicon on Oct. 10, 1923 to Harold and Adelia (nee Chris-topherson) Skalstad, and on Aug. 24, 1946 he was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Redlin at Peace Lutheran Church in Hartford.

Erwin farmed in his early years of marriage along with working at Libby’s. Later he worked at Chrysler until his retirement.

One of his greatest joys was working in his woodworking shop which was set up in his old milk house. He made many beautiful projects which all family members received as gifts.

He also enjoyed doing yard work, fishing, snowmobiling and gardening.

Erwin will be deeply missed by his loving children, Leroy of Milwaukee, Dennis of Rubicon, Darlene (Keith) Vredeveld of Hartford, Donald of Oshkosh and Steve of Hartford.

Also missing him are his cherished grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Zwieg of West Bend, Krista (Tom) Frey of Sand Lake, Mich., Laura (Dan) Ermann of Hartford, David Skalstad of Germantown, Jon Skalstad of Hartford, Jenny (Joel) Patzer of Horicon and Carli Schumacher of Minneapolis, Minn.

"Grandpa Erv" will also be dearly missed by his great-grandchildren, Erika, Lane and Luke Frey, Kaylie Ermann, Tyler Zwieg and Quinten and Sage Patzer.

He will also be missed by other special relatives and friends.

Erwin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; his sisters, Hazel and Eleanor; and his daughter-in-law, Susie Skalstad.

A funeral service in honor of Erwin will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford with Rev. David Wietzke officiating.

Family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
