Thomas E. Eickelberg

Thomas E. Eickelberg, 60, of Ludington, Mich., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007.

Tom was born Dec. 1, 1946 in West Bend, to E. Stuart and Gracia Eickelberg.

He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, serving from 1966 to 1970 in Ludington, Grand Haven and Milwaukee.

He moved back to Ludington in 1974 where he met his wife, Sally Shimel. They were married on Aug. 8, 1975.

Tom was the founder of Eickel-berg Construction, building many homes in the Ludington area. He later developed a passion for log homes and started Stone Ridge Log Homes, building many throughout Michigan.

Tom was founder and long-time member of the Victory Baptist Church, serving as deacon and on several church committees.

His interests included painting, travel and building his "dream castle" home.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Sally; a brother, Stuart; a sister, Anne; daughters, A. Lizabeth (Michael) Zumbach, Brenda (Steve) Abbamonte and Amy (Paul) Herdegen; sons, Ethan (Meggan), Joshua (Tammi), Matthew (Katie) and Stuart (Amy); and grandchildren, Kathleen, Lilia, Gabriel, Aidan, Mallory, Lydia, Elijah, Arnold, Jonas and Gretchen.

He is also survived by W.M. and Ruth Hemmings.

Visitation was held at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home, 309 S. Washington Ave., Ludington, Mich., from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18 and again at Victory Baptist Church, 4353 N. Stiles Road at 10 a.m. Friday with funeral services at 11 a.m.

A luncheon followed the service.
