Melvin J. Mason
Funeral services were held for Melvin J. Mason of Grafton on Jan. 29 at Community United Methodist Church in Cedarburg. Melvin died at Lasata Care Center on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007 at the age of 90. Visitation was held at the church on Monday and interment took place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grafton. Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg is serving the family.
Melvin was born on Dec. 26, 1916 in Unity, the son of the late Arthur and Henrietta (nee Cook) Mason. He graduated from West Allis High School in 1936. On Sept. 2, 1939, Melvin and Alberta "Bertie" were married in Malcolm, Iowa. Melvin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a lifelong member of the Rose-Harms American Legion Post # 355 in Grafton.
Melvin’s favorite hobbies were helping with the Boy Scouts of America, dartball, coaching Little League Baseball, hunting, fishing and woodworking. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Alberta "Bertie" (nee Ward) Mason; his children Barbara (Robert) Scherbert of Cedarburg, Gary (Sue) Mason of Hamburg, Keith (Pam) Mason of Cedarburg and Kenneth (Dolly) Mason of Slinger; and his sister Mildred. He is further survived by 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
