Rosa Foeger Gohl
A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Rosa Foeger Gohl of Mequon at noon today at Lumen Christi Catholic Church (138 W. Buntrock Ave.) in Thiensville. Rosa found peace on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the age of 93, surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held at the church at 9:30 a.m. this morning until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Cemetery in Mequon. Mueller Funeral Home in Cedarburg is serving the family.
Rosa was born on Feb. 17, 1913 in the small mountain town of Axams, Tirol in Austria. Rosa, her first husband Joseph Foeger and their two young daughters immigrated from Austria during World War II for a safer and better life. They faced many challenges starting a new life in Mequon with Joseph’s family. During that time, their family, like many immigrants, had to become self-sufficient. Rosa, Joe and their daughters learned the English language and worked hard to become U.S. citizens. Through their hard work they were able to purchase a small farm in Mequon where they were able to raise their five children and always provide a welcoming home to family and friends. Rosa was widowed in 1967 and continued to live in Mequon on the family property with her youngest daughter.
Years later, Rosa met and dated Roland "Rollie" Gohl. They married and shared 25 years together until his death in 2004. Rosa was saddened by the loss of Rollie, but still managed to smile and laugh. Her health began to decline which restricted her from doing the many things she enjoyed. Since his death, Rosa has been cared for 24 hours a day by her family. She was always a very private person who loved her family and dearly enjoyed their visits.
Rosa is survived by her children Anna Nieman, Helen Brumm, Ericka (Dan) Dickmann, Karl (Jill) Foeger and Rosemary (John) Graham. She is further survived by her grandchildren Herb Nieman, David (Cathy) Nieman, Steve (Donelle) Nieman, Mike (Jody) Nieman, Beverly (Gary) Mills, Julie Nieman, Debbie (James) Wedmore, Claudia (Steve) Temple, Ken (Karen) Brumm, Kim (Tom) Mason, Cynthia Dickmann, Jeff (Karen) Dickmann, Ericka Foeger, Mike (Michelle) Foeger, Casey Foeger, John Graham; and many great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and blessings to Janelle and Zahra of Odyssey Health Care & Hospice.
