Dr. Theodore "Ted" A. Rude Jr.
Dr. Theodore "Ted" A. Rude Jr., retired veterinarian of Hudson (formerly of Cedarburg), died at the age of 82 on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at the Christian Community Home of Hudson.
A memorial service to honor the life of Ted will be held at 11 a.m. today, July 3, at the United Methodist Church, 1401 Laurel Ave., in Hudson. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to the service (10 a.m.) at the church. Private interment will take place at a later date.
Ted was born on March 10, 1925 in Chuquicamata, Chile, the son of Theodore A. Sr. and Mary (Lippincott) Rude who were on expat assignment.
In 1943, he graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mt. Holly, N.J. and from 1943-46, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Ted and his wife of nearly 61 years, Patricia Lockhart, were married on Aug. 3, 1946 in Abington, Pa. They had five children.
After earning his V.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1952, Ted specialized in large and small animal veterinary practice in Oklahoma and Wisconsin.
He left general practice to join the Wisconsin Dept. of Agriculture from 1960-63.
In 1964, he began his long association with Salsbury Laboratories in Charles City, Iowa and Fromm Laboratories in Cedarburg, where he was vice president and general manager.
Ted became a board certified veterinary pathologist in 1967 and was renowned for his expertise in chicken diseases.
He and Pat moved to Hudson in 1985, where Ted was a veterinary consultant and expert witness until 2002.
He served as humane officer for Canterbury Downs and regularly contributed articles to a number of professional veterinary journals.
Throughout his life, Ted was active in the communities where he lived and worked. He served on the Stoughton School Board, the Charles City (Iowa) City Council, the Cedarburg City Council and the Hudson Library Board. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hudson.
Ted was a devoted and loving son, husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He will forever remain in the hearts of his wife Pat; and their children Mary (Stephen) Morse of Morrisville, Pa., David (Kate Mc-Evoy) Rude of St. Paul, Minn., Theo-dore A. III (Sheila) Rude of Stevens Point, Dan (Rose) Rude of River Falls and Connie (Tim) Walker of Maple Grove, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and his brother David (Laura) Rude of Minneapolis, Minn.
Memorials are preferred to the Christian Community Home of Hudson. Funeral and cremation services are entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson.
