Ruth I. Vanderspool
Funeral services for Ruth I. Vanderspool of Thiensville were held on July 29 at Mequon United Methodist Church.
Ruth died at the age of 82 on Thursday morning, July 26, 2007 at Columbia St. Maryís Hospital in Mequon.
The Rev. Wesley White officiated the funeral service. Visitation was held at the church on Sunday, prior to the service.
A private burial took place in Waubeka Union Cemetery.
The Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington assisted the family with arrangements.
Ruth was born Aug. 27, 1924 in Libertyville, Ill., daughter of William and Bertha Kuebker Atwell.
On April 20, 1946 she married Jack Vanderspool in Ivanhoe, Ill. Ruth and Jack owned and operated Merchantís Wholesale, a building materials distributor in Brown Deer.
Jack preceded her in death in 1992.
Ruth was a member of Mequon United Methodist Church, the Red Hatters and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She also volunteered for many organizations including Childrenís Hospital and the Frank L. Weyenberg Library in Mequon.
Ruth enjoyed traveling, photography, golfing, boating, her grandchildren and her special circle of friends.
Jack and Ruth were members of the Port Washington Yacht Club and moored their boat in the Port Washington Marina.
Ruth is survived by her children Gary (Jill) Vanderspool of Cedarburg and Debbie (David) Wickesberg of Saukville; and her grandchildren Erin and Megan Vanderspool and Chad and Ryan Wickesberg.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Jack Vanderspool and her brother Walter Atwell.
Memorials to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society are appreciated.
